There is plenty of other stuff to check out, including an article on Loyalkaspar
My my my, where has the time gone? I’m super busy at work, my friends, but I’ve managed to carve a little time from this evening to make a “quick” post.
(An aside: I sometimes wonder how Tweensters overseas interpret my colloquialisms and casual abuse of the English language. This post, for instance, starts with an exasperated “my my my.” Perhaps readers in Serbia are thinking, “That Justin is such a typical American. Always possessing, possessing, possessing.” Ha!)
One more note before I get started: Even though the news herein is of varied importance and/or interest, I’m sticking with a reverse chronological (oldest item first) sorting scheme, mainly because it’s easy, but also because I don’t want to step on anyone’s feelings by creating a pejorative ranking system.
On with the show…
Framestore CFC: A Flock of Flying Labels
Working with The Martin Agency and Believe Media, Framestore CFC created some beautiful VFX for a :30 Miller spot that takes aim at label-conscious beer drinkers in a witty and elegant way.
Take a little time to read the full press release for a glimpse into how massive an undertaking this project was. The live footage, for example, was shot over 2.5 weeks in Auckland and was coordinated with Framestore’s New York, London and Paris offices, each of which tackled a different aspect of the spot. That’s pretty damn impressive.
Splitdesign: New Work
Head over to Splitdesign for some fun new work. The new projects start with “Bloc Party” and continue on through the Planters “Abs” spot. Great job, Mario!
Patrick Da Cunha: Untitled
Pat Da Cunha of Igloo has a 2D/3D piece up on xplsv.tv that’s definitely worth checking out. Nice camera moves, solid palette control (I love how the bright petals of the flower punch out of their nearly monochromatic surroundings) and a satisfying concept make this piece a winner.
*smilefaucet #5: Energy
*smilefaucet promotes collaboration among artists working in diverse mediums such as photography, illustration, motion graphics, film and sound design by producing seasonal DVDs based on a selected theme.
Their fifth release is centered on the concept of energy and features an opening from Idealist Thought Bubble (whom you might know by a different name). Check out *smilfaucet’s website for more details and for directions to the release party this Friday the 17 th in NYC.
Damn, that looks like fun. Too bad I’ll be in Austin.
Belief: Pollinate Chain Reaction
You all may remember a while back when Belief’s 45-minute live/video presentation was featured on Newstoday. Well, Tween informant Sean Wood has uncovered the spot at the most unlikely of places: Belief’s website.
It’s long, but there are some really good chunks in it. Just keep it running in a window for a bit and see what you think. Try to keep an open mind, and remember that this is Belief we’re talking about. These guys know their shit.
Buck: MTV Movie Awards
I don’t watch TV, so I didn’t see these on the air, but I can tell you that the best part of the MTV Movie Awards had to have been Buck’s animations.
From the whacked out show opener to the kick-ass micro-shorts that introduced each category, Buck outdid themselves. I think this is probably some of their best work to date, easily pushing them into a whole new level of bad-assness.
My favorite spot, incidentally, is the “Best Action Sequence” introduction. Classic.
Logan: onedotzero9
Logan finished up a whimsical ident for onedotzero9 chock-full of nonsensical creatures that somehow seem like they could be very real.
(Be patient with the download; it was a little slow when I tried it out.)
Collider and XYZ Studios
And last but not least, make sure to check out the work of two very noteworthy Australian studios:
Collider and XYZ Studios
On the Collider site, I’m really digging the Target spots, and on XYZ’s site, the soothing Yoga spot made me want to do a Sun Salutation right here at my desk.
(Big up to Jon Gorman over at the venerable Australian INfront for letting me know about Logan’s new work, Collider and XYZ Studios.)
i dont think these “public service announcements” are supposed to be funny, but damn… i can’t stop laughing!
The last thing you should do after having a little too much wine and only getting a couple hours of sleep is make a post on a blog. But because I’m such a wild and crazy guy, that’s exactly what I’m going to do. That’s right, folks: I’m living on the edge.
I’ve got too much stuff to put in one post, so I’m going to stretch this out a bit. Here’s the first installment…
Sinisa Sumina: Exit Festival
Some of you may remember when I posted the work of my Serbian friend Sinisa Sumina a while back. Well, he’s started his own studio, Fried Pictures, and he recently completed a teaser for the Exit Festival. Check it out.
Perception: Sports Kids Moms & Dads
Using a similar approach to the “Showdog Moms and Dads” open created for Bravo a couple months ago, Perception has recently finished up another Bravo show open for “Sports Kids Moms & Dads.” (Be patient with the server; it’s been a little on the slow side lately.)
I’ve heard some pretty wacky stuff about the parents on this new show, so I think it’s appropriate that the endearing narration heard in the Showdogs open has been gobbled up by a decidedly ominous hip-hop soundtrack in the Sports Kids open.
Anita Fontaine: Sikofshadows
Oculart has been posted numerous times on Tween, so it’s only appropriate that self-described “shadow sister” (I like the sound of that) and collaborator Anita Fontaine be featured as well.
Visit her site, which shares the same weirdly magnetic mix of creepy playfulness that Oculart is known for. Personally, I dig the hell out of it, although I can’t quite explain why.
Minds of Intelligence Studios: The Last Autumn Journey
Roger Margido Proeis of Minds of Intelligence Studios sent word of a soothing piece he created entitled “The Last Autumn Journey.” Nice organic forms and use of silhouette to convey the twilight of autumn.
I’m liking the music, too. It’s an interesting blend of an Eastern timbre with a Western melody. It was written by Rolf Loevland, about whom I know nothing.
Some more motion related links collected over the past couple weeks.. enjoy!

Director Arvind Palep and Executive Producer Serge Patzak announced today the formation of 1st Avenue Machine, a new cg boutique with an emphasis on the integration of live action and animation.
There’s some very nice work on their site so far, including the “spore” Nick IDs. (Hint: All three IDs are on the site. Just click the little Next button below the preview frame. I missed that the first time around.)
Best of luck to 1st Avenue Machine. I’m looking forward to more work. (They probably are, too.)
