Till Nowak: Delivery

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

Check out Delivery, a CG short film written and visualized by Till Nowak. “Delivery” uses a surreal, René Magritte-like premise to bring us a decidedly happy ending (depending on how you feel about smoggy, Blade Runner-eque cityscapes of the future) with a couple clever visual devices thrown in for good measure.

I’m particularly impressed by the set and vehicle designs in this piece. You can tell, for instance, that Mr. Nowak lovingly labored over the delivery vehicle’s propulsion system design for a long time. Great attention to detail there.

(Thanks for the tip, Ross.)

Sushi, Beehive, Idiocase and Stash GSAA

Monday, March 28th, 2005

Looks like all of us have been pretty busy. Here’s my attempt to catch up on the emails stacked in my inbox…

Sushi and Sushi
A great source for new work, Sushi and Sushi is compiled by the venerable Satchi and Satchi in London. (Sushi sounds like Satchi, get it? Funny stuff.)

Click the "Sushi Fresh & Raw" link to see the latest haps. Don’t miss the incredible "City Paradise."

Beehive’s New Editor
Beehive has recently hired a wickedly talented editor, Lesley Townsend, who’s spiced up their new montage a bit with some excellent cuts set to Jurassic 5’s "Swing Set." (If I’m mistaken about the track, fellow Tweensters, then please set my ass straight.)

Idiocase
Browse the work of the most recent Cream O’ the Crop member, Idiocase. No work for 2005 yet, but there’s a good deal of interesting older work to check out.

(Thanks, Dirk!)

Turntable Lab
Another new link under the Merchandise section is Turntable Lab, a kind of one-stop shop for sonically-minded hipsters and artists. They also have some nice tracks you can crack your ears on under the "Audio Selections" section (scroll down the page a bit).

(Cheers to Steven Hollman for the link.)

Stash Media: Global Student Animation Awards
Stash is hosting a very promising competition entitled the Global Student Animation Awards. Reasons to enter (from the site):

OPPORTUNITY/ Win one of three categories and we’ll set you up with a job interview at the company you most want to work for. Plus, Stash will kick in up to US$1,000 to get you there.

RECOGNITION/ Be one of 15 Finalists and see your work featured in Stash DVD Magazine, delivered to over 1,000 of the industry’s most influential players. One finalist will be selected as the Best of 2005 and their project will grace the cover of Stash.

THE ULTIMATE TROPHY/ Prizes include a personally engraved Apple G5 Dual Processor with 20” Apple Monitor*, the latest versions* of Maya, boujou, Combustion, Adobe CS and AfterEffects, plus subscriptions to Stash DVD Magazine.

Sounds pretty kick ass to me. Hurry up and enter. Go to the Stash GSAA site for more info.
