Friends With You and Pinthin: Art of Speed
First up is a fantastic piece that you may have already seen: Pinthin and Friends With You’s collaborative piece for Nike’s Art of Speed campaign, "Mr. Wizard." You can watch the spot on Friends With You’s site, but be prepared for a painfully slow download. (It’s worth it.)
So what is it that I like so much about this piece? Well, Friends With You’s handmade style is charmingly cute (as always), and Pinthin’s post work is beautiful, but the piece’s real power comes from its loosely narrative framework. You can really tell that everyone behind this project was involved with "the story" (and all its humorous devices)
Let the rituals begin!as much as "the look." I know that’s not always possible—clients and agencies don’t often call for the appropriation of whacked-out, pseudo-Japanese myths—so when it’s done right, I think it’s worth celebrating. Hooray!
(Special thanks to my buddy Ryan Weston for pointing "Mr. Wizard" out to me. Ryan, incidentally, is looking for work in the NYC area. I’ve collaborated with Ryan on a number of projects, so I can personally attest to his badassness. On top of that, he’s a great guy, the kind of guy you can count on in a crunch. Hard-working, positive, creative. Funny, too. Visit his site for work samples.)
Newstoday QBN Cinema: YKK
If you haven’t seen it yet, peep "YKK," the current feature at Newstoday’s QBN Cinema. Reminiscent of Pleix’s ethereal "Sometimes," this piece was designed by Deltainc and produced by Dentsu. Nice soundtrack.
Death Number One (of Seven)
Thomas Eberwein dropped me a line to tell me about a series of short films he’s making called "The Seven Deaths of Dataclouds." Check out death number one.
Tweaking Tween
I tweaked a little bit of the comment system code for Tween. Please let me know if you’re having problems with it. I also made the author credits under each Tween post a little more visible.
