New stuff from Shilo
Monday, November 29th, 2004Spooktacular stuff
Saturday, November 27th, 2004Looks like Ghostmilk Studios slipped past my radar. They’ve recently been added to the Cream O’ the Crop. Check ‘em out to find out why.
(Thanks for the tip, Jonz.)
Mega post: Onesize, guru, The Mill, Blur and MK12
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2004I kinda hate making these big, aggregate posts, but hey, there’s a bunch of good work out there, and instead of stringing you along like some unprincipled crack dealer, I’m going to shove it down your optical nerves all at once, risking hundreds of ODs and a class-action lawsuit.

First up, onesize has launched their new site, including new work and an RSS feed. Rad.
Next, Toronto-based guru animation has produced some wonderful promos for “The Detour,” a new block of young adult programming on Teletoon. These spots are super dense chunks of animated goodness, with exceptional texturing, lighting and animation. They definitely merit some frame-by-frame scrubbing.
Here’s a story on CGNetworks about the spots that includes a link to a QuickTime compilation. (Or, if you prefer, go to guru’s site and click on the “News” splat to get it all straight from the horse’s mouth.)
While you’re on the CGNetworks site, don’t miss the epic O2 “Panoramic” spot, featuring breathtaking CG from The Mill.
Oh, and one more CGNetworks-related item: make sure to watch the Warhammer 40,000 game cinematic from Blur Studio. Check out those dead-sexy camera moves. Damn fine work.
Last and certainly not least are two spots created by MK12 and David Choe (one here and one here). Produced for EA’s “Need for Speed: Underground 2,” the pieces are further evidence of MK12’s confident upward climb upon the ladder of success. These guys, along with the rest of The Ebeling Group’s roster of bad-asses, have trajectories matched only by SpaceShipOne. More power to them.
(Thanks to Natasha for giving me the inside track on some of this action.)
1961 and If MTV Were…
Monday, November 22nd, 2004
Luxuriate in the psychedelia of Paul Yeh and Oksana Badrak’s “1961,” a tribute to Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space. There’s more than a little MK12 flavor in there, but Yeh and Badrak keep things fresh with their own blend of special herbs and spices.
Also check out these three brilliant MTV spots written and directed by Randy Krallman of HSI Productions. Brand New School lent a hand (well, twelve hands, actually) with design and animation.
(Special thanks to Finn McKenty of Everything Went Black for bringing these MTV spots to my attention.)
New work from Addikt
Saturday, November 20th, 2004Head over to Addikt’s site and check out the following new pieces: “Schwarze Raben,” “Zinloos,” “Canal +,” and “Casema.”
Sharp stuff, as usual. I’m definitely addikted.
(Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)
No BS, just good work
Wednesday, November 17th, 2004I’m too tired for my normal pedantic pretensions, so here, just take these links and run.
Adidas “Unstoppable” from Brian Beletic, repped by Smuggler.
(First vid in the list)
Nike Shox Neo by Psyop.
(presented by Newstoday)
Brooks Animation by Manbaby.
(Click on the first video, then check out the rest. Thanks to John Black from Cypher Audio Development for the tip on this one.)
Guilherme Marcondes: Into Pieces
Tuesday, November 16th, 2004Guilherme Marcondes does it again! “Into Pieces” is a quirky new short he produced at Lobo with the auditory aid of Paulo Beto (also a Loboan). Excellent pacing and character animation in this one.
Great job, Guilherme!
(Special thanks to Natasha for the news and for the term “Loboan,” which I’ll be working into my conversations for the rest of the week.)
Something old, something new
Monday, November 15th, 2004First, the new stuff: Pleix has posted a new short. I think this screened at RESFEST, but I’m not sure. I know I’ve seen it somewhere before, but I can’t remember when/where/why.
It’s kind of “video arty” compared to their other stuff, which I would call more “designy” (to use the technical terms), and the soundtrack is very Weather Channel, which I guess is appropriate given the subject matter. I can imagine this being projected on the side of a mountain while hundreds of hikers toke up below. “Hey, I think I saw my house!”
Make sure to check out the rest of Pleix’s inspiring work.
(Thanks for the tip, Matt.)
Now, on to the old stuff. I’ve been addicted to “Bath Time,” a short animated film from Carlos Fernandez Puertolas. (Don’t get excited: this isn’t that kind of bathing movie.)
The character animation in this is superb, and I love the fixed camera angle. Carlos proves that mastery of animation’s time-tested tactics can yield a highly entertaining piece.
New work from Buck
Thursday, November 11th, 2004Buck has posted a couple new Nike spots in their Recent Broadcast Work area. Check ‘em out, and make sure you have your speakers/headphones up to enjoy the audio by Cypher Audio.
(Thanks for the tip, Matt.)
Billy Harvey
Wednesday, November 10th, 2004Not really mograph-related or whatever but there’s an awful lot of video:

And I actually like the music, too.
