Antoine Caillet comes through with the goods!

Saturday, August 28th, 2004

Antoine Caillet (work | personal) just dropped a kick-ass email in my inbox, and instead of repackaging its contents and stealing the credit (I would never do that ;0), I’m posting a lightly edited version of his email here.

Three cheers for Antoine! Hip hip hooray!

Let the email begin…

Today i visited some of my favorite motion design agencies’ websites, and here is some news :

  • Super-fi: VH1 Total Pop Clash, motion manga
& Nicktoon IDs, featuring Presstube crazy animations. Go here.

  • Filmtechnarna: Mad Action music video

“Panasonic Capture the Motion” from Lobo

Thursday, August 26th, 2004

This beautiful abstract piece comes to us from Lobo, a studio I can always count on for consistently breathtaking, groundbreaking animation.

In the spirit of the Olympic games, Lobo was one of ten worldwide studios commissioned by Panasonic to create a one-minute piece expressing the beauty of the human body in motion. Well, mission accomplished, my friends. This is my favorite Lobo piece to date, and that’s really saying something.

(Special thanks to Natasha Wang with Raz PR.)

Kinda slow, huh?

I thought about making a couple filler posts, but then I changed my mind. The truth is, I don’t see any motion work out there grabbing my eyeballs at the moment.

If you have leads on some Tweenable content, send ‘em my way and I’ll give you full credit. I can’t promise I’ll post everything, but you’ll get a fair shot.

In the meantime, why not have a look at some of these recent contest winners from CGNetworks. Holy cow, man.

RESFEST 2004

Thursday, August 19th, 2004

Announcing Resfest 2004, a traveling music/film/art/culture extravaganza featuring work from the best creative minds the world has to offer.

Sound like I’m bluffing? Blowing smoke up your ass? I’m not. This year’s festival promises to be truly great. Check out the planned program at the Resfest site. (That’s a mighty long scrollbar, no?)

The best part: there’s a very good chance Resfest is coming to your neck of the woods. With a special extended list of tour dates, Resfest will be visiting the standard megalopolises (LA, Tokyo, New York, London, etc.) as well as smaller, shabby-chic destinations, including my hometown of Austin and a slew of other places that I couldn’t locate on a map if you put a gun to my head.

I’m super-stoked about going this year, so I’m going to buy my ticket this afternoon. Make sure you get yours soon, as they will more than likely sell out. Click on the tickets link on the Resfest site for purchasing information.

See you there…

Oh, and PS: No, I wasn’t paid to say this stuff. I’m genuinely excited about both Resfest and Res magazine, the only periodical that I actually salivate over.

Bigger is better: another MK12 interview

Tuesday, August 17th, 2004

This is without a doubt the best (and longest) profile of the MK12 crew I have seen to date.

Grab a big-ass cup of java and get after it.

“Daily Download” show packaging by Buck

Sunday, August 15th, 2004

Head over to Buck’s site and click on “Recent Broadcast Work” to check out their show packaging for Fuse’s “Daily Download.”

The show opener is a psychedlic, retro-flavored stream of consciousness that takes me back to the old pinball counting song from Sesame Street, while the machine-themed bumper features a juicy 3D style reminiscent of Psyop’s Anthem (as pointed out by Govinda over at the Mograph boards).

Man, I love this stuff.

Converse Gallery + 24 seconds = $10k?

Friday, August 13th, 2004

Converse is hosting a promising event: make a 24-second film (i.e. not a commercial) that “embodies the spirit and values of Converse.” If Converse decides to air your short on TV, they’ll give you ten thousand bucks.

Get more details and check out submissions at http://www.conversegallery.com/.

As someone who’s worn low-top Chuck Taylors non-stop since 6th grade, I can’t let this opportunity pass me by. Get in on the fun; the more the merrier.

Peter Wiggins reviews Motion

Wednesday, August 11th, 2004

Here’s a great in-depth review of Motion from Peter Wiggins over at Creative Cow.

I can’t wait to get my hands on the actual software. The anticipation is killing me.

Maiko Gubler sent me this sketchy little piece. Here’s her explanation:

“this clip is part of the forthcoming dvd release by die gestalten verlag in coop with the band funkstörung; other participants are pleix, d-fuse, universaleverything among 30 others”

Sounds like Mai is in good company. Enjoy!
